Meet Lexie…

I really find these awkward…

Who Am I? A Mom, a wife, a nurse, a volunteer at the local VFW’s, worked with veterans in obtaining mobility equipment, and now a rare disease patient.

My chronic illness began when I was a child although the more disabling symptoms began in 2012, when my world changed forever. I had a good few years of “remission” but more recently I am pretty much at home looking to just find ways to have a better quality of life… hence this page.

For some reason, whether it be growing up on a military base as a child and then marrying a sailor, or the time I spent helping others with their medical conditions in the corporate world, I just had to try and share all of the valuable information I have learned along this journey.

I ramble, I still fall victim to the guilty pleasures in life (especially a Venti iced white mocha), I am a recovering toxic gamer, I think the “F” word is a sentence enhancer, and I tend to be very extra in my daily life choices.

Meet “The Husband”…

Rob served for 16 years in the Navy and is now a disabled veteran. I don’t think we have one picture where Cobra isn’t either in it or somewhere close. On the water and fishing is his happy place. From video games to collecting Pokemon cards… he really is a big kid at heart.

He is blunt, sarcastic, and to the point… as most who have served in our military are.

Unfortunately, he had an experience while serving that left him disabled. What are the odds that we both fall ill in the span of two years? Well… we beat those odds… here we are…

He is currently homebound and going through a series of surgeries to try to regain his quality of life (see how this page is making sense now) by learning to navigate the VA system, using the knowledge we have from my decade long journey, and through his own perseverance.

Meet “The Kid”…

At the ripe age of 18 years old in August 2023, meet Landon. He has graduated high school and will be pursuing a degree in Health Information Technology. He has decided to live with his parents for a little longer and soak up our electricity until his has completed a portion of his degree.

If you were to drive by our home around midnight and hear yelling, that would be him, the gamer with lagging internet.

He has started his own medical journey with a few recent diagnosis’… genetics and all… and he is working very diligently to curve his symptoms through diet and exercise before seeking any type of conventional treatment.

And did you guess it? he is working on improving his quality of life … yep… it’s a family mission.

Cobra & Artimus

Our furry children…

Cobra (The Boxer): He enjoys being beside his Dad and breathing the same air as he does… literally… His favorite snacks are anything pork and pup cups from Starbucks. He suffers from colitis and separation anxiety… I know, you really can’t make this stuff up.

Artimus (The Weimaraner): He enjoys being with Mom and doing everything she does. His favorite snack is green beans or lettuce. He was going to be Mom’s service dog until he was found to have a rare disease… seriously folks, this story is almost unbelievable. He is still undergoing testing.

If you are thinking that these two are also working on their quality of life… well… you’d be correct!
